Charcoal

A rewarding medium as it’s so fast to use. Using the side of the charcoal gives me broad, painterly marks which can be smudged with rags or fingers; more pressure produces velvety darks instantly. I might draw in highlights with an eraser, or build delicate layers and textures slowly. Great for finished pieces, as well as sketches.
