Hampstead Ponds Residency 2026

Recently I’ve begun a series of works based on my experiences of coastal and wild swimming, so having the chance to study the Women’s Bathing Pond over several seasons is exciting. I’m keen to explore the play of light on water, the contrast between surface reflection and the world below, to have the chance to absorb the changing flora and fauna on the banks. 

I feel a strong loyalty to the community of Hampstead Heath, having lived in the area for over 25 years. The Heath itself and ponds have been a huge inspiration. I recall my first swim in the ladies’ pond, and the extraordinary sensation of seeing the world from the same viewpoint as the moorhens.

As a project, this has only just started so I will be updating this page with sketches and paintings as the year progresses.
